Frisch und temperamentvoll musiziert ...
What a discovery! And what an enthusiasm! L’Arte del mondo plays three Sturm and Drang symphonies by Austrian composer Anton Zimmermann. The music is highly original, effective, and richly orchestrated. The performances are vibrant and characterful.

L'Arte del Mondo give the music suitable advocacy, playing with admirable confidence and accuracy.  It's a jolly good thing that musicians such as Ehrhardt and labels such as DHM continue to explore and enhance our understanding of the more marginal figures of the early Classical period.

Named CD of the week

Absolutely worth hearing
One hears in the playing of the ensemble that this work is not only for the conductor unbelievably exciting, but for every single musician.  L’arte del mondo is able to show effortlessly all emotional colors, the rambunctious glee, as well as the poignantly dramatic.  Homogeneous ensemble, which we gladly follow on this early-classical-discovery-tour to Preßburg.

Seldom after hearing the first CD does one wait so excitedly for the next as with this recording of three symphonies by Anton Zimmermann.  Werner Ehrhardt and his ensemble l’arte del mondo have not only accomplished outstanding interpretive work but also music-historical and editorial — please more of it!

-- Attila Csampai, STEREOPLAY            October 2018
A true sensation …
With Zimmermann the musical context proves to be unpredictable, discontinuous, and Ehrhardt and his highly-motivated 25-person ensemble go all out energetically and vigorously in order to let us directly experience the revolutionary pulse of this music.  This album is therefore far more than a ‘discovery’ […].

Een ontdekking! ...

A discovery! …
The German ensemble L’Arte del Mondo under the leadership of its artistic director Werner Ehrhardt, and on historical instruments, - and with great élan - brings here three [symphonies].  A world premiere of three symphonies that more than merit discovery since they contain extremely imaginative and brilliant music, full of ‘Sturm und Drang’.  The superb recording does full justice to the rich character and lush orchestration of this music.

The pacing and articulation of the excellent band Le Concert Lorrain are consistently insightful and sympathetic...
The counterpoint is shaped exquisitely in 'The sons of Israel do mourn', with judicious balance between plaintive oboes and strings.
...the trombones, woodwind, drums and strings achieve amazing textural clarity in the antiphonal exchanges of hailstones.

Without doubt this is one of the most interesting and innovative discs that I have ever encountered....
I cannot heap enough praise on this release with regard to either the repertoire or the performances. It is simply stunning on all counts and certainly deserving of a place in the collections of both Mozarteans and opera aficionados, not to mention Fanfare’s Classical Hall of Fame.
